→ establishes the essential health and safety requirements for all machinery placed on the European market.

🔹EN 17206
→ a harmonized standard governing lifting systems in the entertainment industry, replacing national standards with unified European criteria.

🔹BGV/DGUV D8, D8+, C1
→ German classifications that define different safety levels for hoists used in events and shows.
What does this mean in practice?
D8 – for static rigging
👉 Used to lift trusses, audio, or lighting before the event
👉 Cannot hold loads above people without secondary safety systems
👉 Safety factor 5:1, single brake
D8+ – for permanent suspension above people
👉 Allows loads to remain suspended above people without additional safety systems
👉 Dynamic movements are not permitted
👉 Safety factor 8:1, double independent brake
C1 – for dynamic movements during live shows
👉 The only classification that allows lifting and moving loads above people in real time
👉 Used in stage automation and large live productions
👉 Safety factor ≥ 8:1 (often 10:1), double brake, limit switches, load monitoring.
Typically equipped with position and speed control devices compliant with SIL3 safety level.
